We talk to Alessio Funghi, italian firefighter
13 February, 2023

Hello Alessio, first of all, introduce yourself:

Hi, I’m Alessio Funghi, I’m 27 years old and I live in Italy. Since I was a minor, at the age of 14, I joined the Italian Civil Protection as a volunteer and, once of age, as a volunteer firefighter in the Wildfire Brigade.

How important is lighting for a firefighter?

We are trained to rescue in any situation, even without visibility, but, of course, we must admit that without seeing what we are doing with our hands and where we put our feet, it is difficult to carry out the intervention. Lighting in the various interventions is vital, the flashlights are our eyes in the dark and can really make a difference in the success of a rescue. But not just for this.

Flashlights also allow us to identify ourselves, to place them on our departure routes and thus increase our safety.

How long have you been using Adalit flashlights? Which models?

I have been using Adalit for just over a year, but I would have liked to have known it long before!

I currently use the L-30 on both my Sicor VFR EVO helmet and the Sicor EOM, while for my intervention jacket I have an L-90R Power flashlight (my favorite for fires) and an L-90R (my favorite for rescue).

What would you highlight from your experience with Adalit compared to other brands you’ve used in the past?

Torches have always fascinated me.
Since I was a child, I remember the night walks with my grandparents where I always had a flashlight with me, and as I grew up I tried so many brands, as there are so many uses for them. However, when I became a volunteer Forest Fire firefighter, lighting was no longer a game and what I immediately appreciated at Adalit, in fact, is the attention they pay to its true purpose.

I make myself clear. I would define Adalit lights as flashlights made for firefighters and then adapted to other uses, not the other way around as I have seen in other brands.
In the world of rescue you cannot improvised, and Adalit in each model has always given me the idea of wanting to make a difference, both in reliability and performance.

In what situations do you find the helmet flashlight and the jacket flashlight most useful?

I think they are two essential tools, but at the same time different.

The helmet lamp is important to always have the right lighting depending on where we look, so it also allows us to continue operating hands-free in any scenario.

The chest flashlight is a tool that cannot be dispensed with in fires with a lot of smoke, as in the case of a fire in a confined space. By having a higher performance compared to a helmet lamp, it will be thanks to the latter that it will be possible to split the fumes and have some visibility.
